“Una piedra negra” (A black stone)is a feature film project made in different techniques of digital animation and that combines elements of science fiction, psychedelia, terror and experimental abstraction, reflecting on the functioning of the human mind and how it constructs what we call reality. The project was born around 2005, Amaral had made a series of video art pieces in which he explored the possibilities of the distortions produced by errors in digital video archives, a technique that was later popularized under the name datamosh and used by artists such as Takashi Murata and David O'Reilly.

Amaral noticed that the different pieces worked well together, and began to work on the idea of a feature film that would unify them. But his intention was to take care himself of all the tasks of the realization, from the script, to the postproduction, through the animation, music and sound effects. Obviously, the production times were tremendously long. For that reason, the idea arose to show different fragments in the form of video installations, short films, paintings, virtual reality pieces and live audiovisual performances.

Una piedra negra is currently a work in progress, which works as a motor for all the artistic production of Amaral, and at the same time, all its production will be consolidated at some point - or maybe not - a feature film.
